Principal Attorney
Ekene (Juliet) Okwumo is an experienced Family Law Lawyer and the Principal Attorney at EOJ Legal Practice. She brings a strong background in corporate and commercial law into her family law practice, applying advanced drafting, negotiation, and advocacy skills to help clients resolve complex and emotionally sensitive matters effectively.
Having transitioned from corporate and commercial law, Ekene leverages her extensive experience in contract drafting and negotiations to assist clients with settling family law disputes, negotiating equalization payments, and drafting and negotiating separation agreements, marriage contracts, and cohabitation agreements. She is also committed to helping parents re-establish meaningful relationships with their children in situations where parenting time has been denied.
Ekene regularly represents clients before the Ontario Superior Court of Justice and the Ontario Court of Justice on matters involving child support, decision-making responsibility, parenting time, spousal support, and relocation. Her litigation experience is complemented by a practical, resolution-focused approach aimed at achieving fair and sustainable outcomes for her clients.
In addition to her family law practice, Ekene works on a project basis as a Document Review Lawyer for e-discovery firms, where she handles matters involving cybersecurity, competition law, solicitor-client privilege, and relevance. She is proficient in the use of Relativity software and brings a high level of precision and analytical skill to document review and legal research.
Ekene is currently pursuing a Certificate in Estate and Trust Administration with STEP Canada to further strengthen her wills and estate planning practice.
Beyond her legal work, Ekene is deeply committed to community service. She serves as a volunteer Board Member with St. Matthew’s House, a not-for-profit organization providing childcare services and senior support to underprivileged members of the Hamilton community. She is also passionate about mentoring young people and supporting them in achieving their personal and professional goals.
